Sam’s Southern Eatery Expands Again with a New Wichita Location

Another Southern Comfort Destination in Wichita

Wichita is about to get another taste of Louisiana-style comfort food as Sam’s Southern Eatery prepares to open its third location in the city. Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer from Salina and the driving force behind this expansion, has chosen 6121 E. 21st St. as the site for the newest addition. The building, originally a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and later home to Clouds—a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant—will now be transformed into a hub for delicious Southern-style meals.

Introducing Wichita’s First Sam’s Southern Eatery Drive-Through

This location brings a unique addition to the Wichita market: a drive-through service. While slightly smaller than the other two Sam’s Southern Eatery locations in the city, this new establishment will cater to customers looking for quick and convenient service. The drive-through menu will feature signature items such as crispy fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and classic po' boy sandwiches. For those dining inside, the full menu of Southern specialties will be available.

A Menu Packed with Flavor

Sam’s Southern Eatery, founded in 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana, has become known for its authentic and high-quality Southern cuisine. Some of the standout items on the menu include fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crab cakes, chicken wings, and fried oysters. With a dedication to fresh ingredients and time-tested recipes, the restaurant has built a loyal following.

A Growing Presence in Wichita

Emanuel Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have played a crucial role in expanding Sam’s Southern Eatery across Kansas. The duo introduced the restaurant to Wichita in early 2024, taking over the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. Later that year, they launched a second Wichita location at 6600 W. Central. Each opening has been met with enthusiasm, solidifying the brand’s presence in the local food scene.

More Growth on the Horizon

Emanuel Ashiedu has even bigger plans for the future. He is actively searching for a location on the south side of Wichita for another drive-through restaurant, further increasing accessibility to Sam’s Southern Eatery’s famous dishes. With the brand’s growing popularity, this expansion is just the beginning.

Grand Opening Set for Spring

The newest Sam’s Southern Eatery location is expected to open in mid- to late March. Offering both drive-through convenience and a welcoming dine-in experience, the restaurant is set to become another popular destination for fans of authentic Southern cooking. Whether customers want a quick meal on the go or a sit-down feast, this latest expansion promises to deliver the signature flavors that have made Sam’s Southern Eatery a beloved name in Wichita.
